War Eagle Baseball 2010 starts TODAY! Can't wait and I am looking forward to a great season!

We are playing Greenwood in a benefit game today. They always have a quality team. The mayor is throwing out the first pitch to officially open the remodeled Veteran's Park.

I just wish it would warm up...

Go War Eagles!

A Great First Season

I want to congratulate the War Eagles and Coach Kilgore and Coach Downing on a successful first season. From last fall to now it has been a whirlwind. Fundraising ideas...how much $$ ???!!!...football concession stand...cookie sales..pancake breakfast...ice storm clean-up...garage sale...chicken cook...ad sales!!!...Florida trip...state tournament win. It has all been fun and I can't wait to do it all again (well, maybe not all of it!).

We got off to a blazing 10-2 start, including a great spring break trip to Florida, and came back and qualified for the state tournament. We lost some games we should have won but I think we found out that we can play with the best of the conference. Winning a game in the state tournament and coming soooo close to advancing to the next round was a great ending.

I think I speak for all of the parents that we have enjoyed the year. We all feel blessed to have 2 fine coaches (as coaches and as people) leading our team and can't wait for next year!

Go War Eagles!!!

Heartbreaking Loss Ends Season

We had our 2nd state tournament game 2 1/2 hours later in Springdale. It was against Southside, the 2 seed from the 7A West. We had won one and lost one against them earlier in the season. We scored a run in the first. Spanky reached on a error by their shortstop and scared us all when he ran to second. Their shortstop wasn't paying attention and he took advantage of it. Collin went in and ran for Spanky and Payton hit a single that got Collin home. After that it was a pitcher's duel. Zac pitched for us (struck out 8 Rebles!) and kept Southside from scoring until the 6th. They scored a run they should not have gotten in the 6th. They hit into a perfect double play but the runner going into second ran into Matt. Coach K argued for interference to no avail. So, it was tied 1-1 after 6. We played into the 9th still tied and got 2 outs before Southside scored a run to win. We were all sick but very very proud of the way they played and coached! Southside beat Cabot on Tuesday to advance to the championship game. How close we were. Can't wait 'til next season!

First State Tournament Victory!

Monday the War Eagles made history again and won their first state tournament game. Congratulations!!! We finally got to play after waiting on it to stop raining for 3 days. We played Conway - they were the 3 seed from the 7A Central conference. We played in Fayetteville on a very wet field. This has become Payton's favorite field - he hit another home run there, his 3rd at Fayetteville for the season. Zac was on base (he went 5 for 5!) so that gave us a 2 run lead in the first. Travis pitched and Conway didn't do much against him except strike out (9 times!). No one from Conway got a hit until the 5th inning and we played great defense. Spanky added a home run in the 6th inning - Zac was on base again and scored! We ended up with 13 hits and won 7-3. Way to go War Eagles!!!

War Eagles qualify for STATE!

We have qualified for the 7A State Baseball Tournament! On Saturday, Southside completed a sweep of Northside and that gave us the 6th seed spot! Congratulations, War Eagles! It looks like we will play Conway at 6:30 on Friday in Fayetteville or Springdale.

Mounties Sweep

The first War Eagle and Mountie baseball game was played at Arvest Park in Springdale. What a privilege to play there! There were a lot of fans - Coach E brought the football boys down and there were a lot of Heritage students - all cheering loudly. It was a beautiful day for baseball!
We got off to a good start and scored 2 runs in the first innings. Spanky had a double down the left field line, Payton walked and then Reed had a single between the shortstop and the 3rd basemen to score Collin (running for Spanky!). Payton was at third and scored on a passed ball. The Mounties scored 2 in the first also. It stayed 2-2 until the 4th. The Mounties got several hits and scored 5 runs. We scored another run in the 6th but couldn't get anymore across. We had a lot of opportunities but left way too many runners on. We play the Mounties again on Monday but the forecast doesn't look good... rain, rain, rain.
We actually got the game in on Monday. We played ok but the Mounties hit the ball all over the park - 15 singles - and won.
